Oscar Salet accepted to answer our questions to present Holland in China.

Maxxelli-blog: Name, Age, sex, position
Oscar: Oscar Salet, 31, chief representative at Netherlands Business Support Office Wuhan (NBSO Wuhan).

Maxelli-blog: What do you do in Wuhan?
Oscar: We assist Dutch companies, individuals, governments and universities doing business in Central China and finding their way in this in many ways very complex part of the world. Furthermore, part of our job is to promote Holland in the region and maintain a network with local governments and the corporate world.

Maxxelli-blog: What did you do before?
Oscar: Before I came to Wuhan I worked at a business advisory and consultancy company in The Hague. Most projects were related to cooperation between actors from the three different fields of enterprises, academia and governments. We tried to bring them together, share their knowledge and achieve more and better results.

Maxxelli-blog: How and when was your office created?
Oscar: We opened in 1997. At that time, the concept of a business support office of a foreign country in a second tier city in China was new and innovative. Currently, we see various kinds of representations all over China and our benchmarks are kind of getting innumerable.

Maxxelli-blog: Who are your customers?
Oscar: Being a Dutch government office, we are uniquely working for Dutch individuals and organisations, free of charge and furthermore we are committed to assist Chinese organisations that seek to be active in or with the Netherlands.

Maxxelli-blog: What tips and suggestions do you have for newcomers in Wuhan?
Oscar: Go to one of the bars mentioned before in this part of the website. They are great places to forget your daily work related worries, enjoy some nice food and drinks and connect to people who might help you out on various kinds of things. Furthermore, for business people, there is an increasing number of Business Chambers active in Wuhan, like Kotra, the French-Chinese Chamber and AmCham. They regularly organise interesting activities.
