The Shoe Box Project, a fun and inspiring project led by the Women of Wuhan (WOW). You can find all the information below but if you are interested to join these caring women and start your own shoe box, then please contact Elsa Gade by e-mail. That’s not the only thing WOW is doing, they’re also passionate about the charity for the “HIV and aids-hit-young-persons” and the small library for expats. If you want to know more about all this, don’t hesitate to get in touch with Elsa.
The Shoe Box project
The aim is to collect small things for school children – useful and nice things. First you have to find Chinese persons to help you as it is very difficult to carry out charity in China without official help. But when you have found one – in a school or working for the local government, you will be supported and helped.
Then you, who will be in charge of the project, spread the info to the ones who will help you. It’s a good idea to do it in the International Women´s Club. When you find out how many would help you, next thing is to find a date when you will deliver the boxes to the school.
You tell your fellow caregivers that they can decide to support a girl or a boy and also which age the box is for. You can for instance have boxes for 6-9 years old and from 9-12 years old.
Then you appeal to the women that when they go for shopping, they put some small things for this child (you have in mind the gender and the age) in the box. It can be a comb, soap, wash cloth, a small toy, toothbrush, for girls something for the hair, a book, note paper, pencils, and so one. Please no sweets or anything to eat.
On the chosen date everybody goes to the school together with your support person to deliver the boxes. Make sure you know how many children there will be so you have enough boxes. You can also buy a lot of pencils and note books if you should be so unfortunate not to have enough boxes.
