Chengdu Signs up to WWF’s “Earth Hour 2010” to Save Electricity

World Wildlife Fund (WWF) announced on February 1, 2010 that Chengdu Municipal Government commits to turning off the lights in the city at 20:30 March 27, 2010. This commitment was made on January 29, 2010. Thus, Chengdu becomes the first city to sign up for this campaign in China, and the WWF China Earth Hour 2010 is officially unveiled.

The giant panda, which has been living in Chengdu for over 8 million years, is selected as the logo for the campaign this year. The low-carbon concept advocated by WWF Earth Hour is highly in line with Chengdu’s vision to develop a low-carbon economy. Chengdu hopes to raise the awareness of reducing carbon among its whopping 13 million citizens through this campaign.

So, 8:30 PM on March 27, 2010 turn out your lights and see the difference you can make in the fight against global warming.
