The rail link between Antwerp and Chongqing will be operational this month.  Hupac company will ship goods from and to China over a 10,000 km distance.
The project was launched last year. With 32 million inhabitants, Chongqing municipality also functions as the largest Chinese hub for goods. A trip will depart daily from the port of Antwerp towards China via Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Russia and Mongolia.
The port of Antwerp will also benefit to export goods for China sent by train to Chongqing. The rail link does not constitute a threat to the port companies but a complementary to marine activities and will generate extra shipping. Belgian Customs want to make the world new project by establishing a “Green Lane Train” between China and Europe. The Customs Administration seeks to conclude agreements on exchange of information with all countries involved to facilitate the transport of goods.
