Chengdu: Opening of Metro Line 2 scheduled for October 2012

The opening of metro line 2 is projected for October this year. This line will include 15 underground stations and 11 elevated stations. 5 more lines are planned for the future and by 2020 the metro system is supposed to transport every day about 13.1 million passengers, rising to 14.1 million a day by the year 2035.

The metro line two will run along north-west to south-east. On the other hand metro line one serves from the north to the south of the city; to be more precise from Shenxian Lake in the north of town to Century City in southern Chengdu.

The temporary metro line 2 stations are  the following:

Chadianzi Bus Terminal, Yangxi Flyover, Yipintianxia, East Shuhan Road, Baiguolin, Chengdu University of TCM & Sichuan Provincial People’s Hospital, Tonghuimen, People’s Park , Tianfu Square, Chunxi Road, Dongmen Bridge, Niuwangmiao, Niushikou, Dongda Road, Tazishan Park, East Chengdu Railway Station, Chengyu Flyover, Huiwangling, Honghe, and the Chengdu Administration Institute.
