In China, amusement parks enjoy great popularity – in every major city you can usually find several small theme parks. Now, well-known brands discover there’s future potential in China. The Finnish inventor company of Angry Birds (named Rovio Entertainment) recently signed a contract with the district administration of Xindu district to build an Angry Birds branded amusement park. Since a few years, the Angry Birds invade homes all over the world; and honestly speaking who wouldn’t recognize this little red bird these days? Currently China represents the company’s second biggest market with approximately 100 million Angry Birds app downloads in the past year. After having opened a licensed merchandise store in Shanghai this June, Rovio Entertainment now brings their business to the next level by developing 10 to 20 branded amusement parks throughout China including Chengdu, Haining, Beijing and Guangzhou. The construction of the 20 to 30 thousand m² theme park in the North of Chengdu is supposed to be started October this year and finished in roughly 2 years.
Beside this, two other Scandinavian enterprises are about to settle in Chengdu. Swedish furniture store Ikea who plans to open its second store in Chengdu, as well in Xindu district. The third company which soon can be found in this growing district is the toy bricks producer Lego from Denmark, which is about to create its first Legoland in China on an area of 1 million square meters.
