Wuhan is famous for its geographical position it is known as “the gateway to nine provinces”. The city is located within a radius of 1,000km from other major cities in China such as Beijing, shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Xi’an. The city’s geographical position gives the advantage to link the east and west, and as a pivot providing easy excess between the north and the south. And off course Wuhan is capable to provide easy excess to both lakes.

There are three state-level economic and technological development zones in Wuhan. The East Lake Hi-Tech Development Zone focus on optical and electronic communications, bioengineering, material research and laser technologies, while the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone emphasizes on the production of automobiles and spare parts, food and beverages. The unearthed Panlong Town Heritage proved to be to be the place of the Fang State in Shang Dynasty built about 3,500 years ago, and it was the only town in Shang Dynasty discovered in Yangtze River Valley, On October 10 1911, the Xinhai revolution started in Wuhan, which ended the feudal society lasted 5000 years in China.

Wuhan has plenty of attractions such as Yellow Crane Tower, Baotong Zenist Temple, Guiyuan Zenist Temple, Qingchuan Pavilion, East Lake, etc. The Yellow Crane Tower was built in 223 AD. It is renowned for its poetry. Many famous poets such as Li Bai, Bai Juyi and Lu You have written poems there. Wuhan also boasts some museums like Zhongshan Warship Museum and Qingchuan Pavilion.

Wuhan has its own unique food culture. There, Jingzhou Cuisine meets Huangzhou local cuisine. There are many renowned delicacies, such as “steamed blunt snout”, “braised soft-shell turtle”, and typical snacks, like steamed dumplings from “Sijimei”, Doupi from “Laotongcheng”, hot dry noodles from “Cailinji”, and sweet dumplings from “Wufangzai”.

Government officials in central China’s Hubei province announced that they will invest more than 176 billion yuan to expand throughput capacity of Wuhan New Port on the Yangtze River between 2011 and 2020.

The move comes as Hubei seeks to explore the shipping potential of the Yangtze to make the port, which covers the cities of Wuhan, Huanggang and Ezhou, the shipping center for the middle reaches of the country’s longest river.

Although the provincial government gave no exact figure for the full 10-year project, it said the investment between 2011 and 2015 would amount to 176.6 billion yuan.

The investment will help expand annual cargo throughput to 200 million tons and container throughput to 2 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in 2015 from the current 100 million tons and 650,000 TEUs, it said.

The annual throughput is expected to increase to 240 million tons and 5 million TEUs in 2020.

Swedish home-furnishing giant Ikea Group is on track to expand and upgrade its business across China, with plans to more than double its store numbers on the mainland by 2015....

Swedish home-furnishing giant Ikea Group is on track to expand and upgrade its business across China, with plans to more than double its store numbers on the mainland by 2015.

They are aiming to have 16 to 18 stores on the Chinese mainland by 2015 in a combination of first-tier and second-tier cities.

After entering China in 1998, Ikea now has eight stores in eight cities across the country. The company grew on average by 15 percent year-on-year in each of the past 12 years.
Although the Chinese market amounts to a small share of their global business right now, they are confident that with their sped-up expansion and China’s robustly growing economy, China will be the Ikea Group’s biggest market in 15 to 25 years.

In the 2010 fiscal year, Ikea’s revenue in China increased by 23 percent year-on-year to 3.7 billion yuan ($555.9 million). Globally, the group’s 315 stores in 38 countries produced 23.1 billion euros ($30.76 billion) in revenue during that period. China is not yet on Ikea’s top 10 markets list.

Ikea started the construction of its second store in Beijing in the city’s southwestern Daxing district, together with a super-size shopping center, a co-investment of the Ikea Group and its sister company the Inter Ikea Centre Group. The shopping center and store, with a total investment of more than 5 billion yuan, is the biggest investment worldwide in a single project for Ikea.

By 2015, Ikea and Inter Ikea will open two more shopping centers, together with Ikea home-furnishing stores in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, and Wuhan, Hubei province.

Ikea started its home-furnishing business in Shanghai and Beijing in rented space. In 2003, it opened its first standard store in the Chinese market in Shanghai, and it stopped renting real estate in 2006. All of their stores now and in the future in China will be located on land they have purchased. .

Ikea has established a business system in China that covers production, sourcing, logistics and retail. That’s the reason for them to reduce the price of products in China, for example, a coffee table from 199 yuan 10 years ago to 39 yuan today – the cheapest in the world.

Foreign banks have strengthened their expansion efforts in China, which remains one of the fastest growing economies in the world, as the global economic meltdown is ebbing.

Metrobank has been in business in China since the 1990s, with branches and offices in Shanghai and Beijing. In early 2010 it opened Metropolitan Bank (China) Limited in Nanjing, becoming the first foreign bank to establish its headquarters in the city. The new bank serves as the base for Metrobank’s operations in China. The bank is planning to build 15 more branches in China within three to five years, and our target clients are small and medium-sized businesses.

They have achieved a balance of income and expenditure six months after the opening and they most likely will see a profit at the end of the year. The results are both pleasant and surprising. It shows our direction to serve China’s small and medium-sized enterprises is right and China’s financial market is really huge.
Foreign banks began a new round of expansion in China this year, two years after the outbreak of the global financial crisis triggered by the sub-prime crisis in the United States.

Standard Chartered Bank is preparing to open a branch in Wuhan, central China’s Hubei Province, after having entered Ningbo in eastern China’s Zhejiang Province and Hohhot in northern China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region this year.

The British financial service company is planning to expand at a pace of entering three cities in China every year.

Citibank, a major international bank based in the United States, extended operations into Changsha, capital of central China’s Hunan Province, and Guiyang, capital of southwestern China’s Guizhou Province, in the fourth quarter of this year.

Also, the Bank of East Asia (BEA), a financial service based in Hong Kong, is expanding in China as it builds two branches every year, on average, instead of just one as in the previous years, said Xu Hua, president of the Nanjing branch of the BEA.

From 2008 to 2010, the BEA has set up branches in five cities across China, including Hefei, Tianjin, Shijiazhuang, Suzhou and Urumqi.

Foreign banks were competing to expand in China in 2007, but the pace slowed after the outbreak of the global financial crisis in 2008. However, they are picking up the pace of expansion again as the global economic meltdown is phasing out.

Ground was broken for a 606-meter-high building in Wuhan for what is expected to be the third-tallest construction in the world. Its developer, Shanghai-based Greenland Group hopes to develop the building into a multifunctional property with high-end hotels, a conference center and serviced apartments.

The building, being built with a 30 billion yuan ($4.5 billion) investment, will have more than 3 million square meters of gross floor area after completion in five years, according to Greenland.

According to the developer, Wuhan is a very important city in Central China it’s transiting from a regional center to an international city. It has a huge market potential, and it’s necessary to construct a landmark building in the city.

The developer has properties in 41 cities across the nation. Greenland’s sales exceeded 110 billion yuan in the first 11 months of the year, and its revenue is expected to exceed 120 billion yuan this year, helping it outshine China Vanke Co Ltd.

The new building in Wuhan, about 900 km west of Shanghai, will be higher than the 492-meter World Financial Center in Shanghai, now the tallest tower in China. It will be dwarfed only by the 632-meter Shanghai Tower, scheduled to be completed in 2014, and the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the worlds tallest at 828 meters
